PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University women's basketball team dropped its Skyline Conference opener to Manhattanville College, 96-42, at Kennedy Gymnasium on Tuesday evening. The Valiants advance to 1-0 in the conference (2-0 overall), while the Maccabees drop to 0-1 in league play (1-2 for the season).
Yeshiva had a brief lead in the early stages of the game, as back-to-back field goals by senior forward
Tehilla Teigman and freshman guard
Yuval Nitzan put the Macs in front, 4-2. However, Manhattanville countered with a 10-0 run to take the lead for good.
In the fourth quarter, YU generated an 8-2 run, capped off by a 3-point field goal from senior guard
Chana Boltax. It was not enough as the Valiants went on to earn the conference victory.
For the evening, Teigman produced a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Nitzan generated 12 points with five assists, four boards, and a pair of steals. Junior forward
Lindsay Brandwein grabbed five caroms, while scoring four points, dishing out two assists, and forcing a steal. Sophomore guard
Jessie Orgel had a solid game with five points and four boards, while first-year forward
Mahlia Leventhal added two rebounds. Senior guard
Leah Shulman distributed a pair of assists, while sophomore guard
Elisheva Mirwis successfully converted a free throw and clutched onn carom.
For Manhattanville, junior guard Sarah Coutu led the way with 22 points, seven rebounds, five steals, and four assists.
Yeshiva will host Skyline rival Mount Saint Mary College, at the ARC Arena, on Thursday evening. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
