EDGEWATER, N.J. – The Yeshiva University men's tennis team earned a convincing non-conference victory over Hunter College, 8-1, at the Binghamton Racquet Club on Sunday afternoon. The Hawks drop their season opener, while the Maccabees advance to 4-3.
Yeshiva won all three doubles flights and went 5-1 in singles play.
Senior
Mikey Ozery and junior
Avidan Rudansky began the afternoon with a dominating victory at No. 2 doubles, 8-1. Freshman
Aaron Cohen and junior
Lior Brik followed with a victory in the first doubles position, 8-1. Freshman
Jeremy Brody and sophomore
Ezra Rudansky concluded doubles competition with a win at the third flight, 8-4.
Junior
Alexander Kalb kicked off the singles portion of the match with a win at the fifth position, 6-0, 6-1. Freshman
Samuel Edery continued YU's momentum with a victory at the sixth spot, 6-1, 6-0, clinching the team-victory for the Maccabees. Cohen came back to dominate the second singles flight, 6-2, 6-2. Ozery won at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-4. Brik was victorious at No. 3 singles, 6-3, 6-2.
"Today was a good match all around," Yeshiva University head coach
Jon Rubinstein said. "We are finally starting to enter mid-season form. This is a team (Hunter) that has given us problems in the past and today we just got to business and didn't let them into the match."
Yeshiva will travel to the College of Staten Island on Monday, for a non-conference matchup against the Dolphins, at the CSI Tennis Center. First serve is scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
