FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University men's tennis team earned a narrow Skyline victory over Farmingdale State, 5-4, at the Farmingdale Tennis Courts on Wednesday evening.
Yeshiva (7-5, 2-0 Skyline) rallied from a 4-1 deficit by winning the last four singles matches to complete the come-from-behind win.
"This match was quite the challenge," Yeshiva University head coach
Jon Rubinstein said. "We hit a lot of traffic getting out to campus and along the way. With the abbreviated warm up, freezing temperatures, and our first outdoor match since nationals last year, we came out quite cold. Their (FSC) first singles is very talented and we knew going in that getting the court against him would be very tough given the situation."
It came down to the No. 4 singles match between junior
Avidan Rudansky and senior Dan Kafka, with the winner of the flight picking up the fifth point to clinch the conference victory for his team. Rudansky dropped the first set, 6-4, and trailed 3-0 in the second. However, Rudansky would not go down without a fight, as he won seven of the set's final nine games to win the frame, 7-5, and tie the match, 1-1. The Mamaroneck native's momentum continued in the rubber set, as Rudansky won six out of seven games to win the third frame and clinch the come-from-behind victory for the Maccabees, extending their conference winning streak to 32 matches.
"We didn't give up," Rubinstein said. "Avidan showed what it is to be a Mac and fought point by point all the way back. So proud of his fight, today!"
Rudansky teamed with senior
Mikey Ozery to win Yeshiva's lone doubles match, at the second flight, 8-3.
After Farmingdale State (0-2, 0-1 Skyline) won the first two singles matches, junior
Lior Brik began Yeshiva's rally by winning at No. 3 singles, 6-2, 6-0. Freshman
Amram Wahnon continued the Maccabees' momentum by winning the fifth flight, 6-1, 6-3. Freshman
Aaron Cohen was able to tie the match thanks to his win at No. 2 singles, 6-3, 6-4. Rudansky's come-from-behind No. 4 singles win clinched Yeshiva's second Skyline victory of the season.
The Maccabees will compete against the Division I Rams of Fordham University, in the Bronx, on Sunday morning. First serve is scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
