Baseball Drops Two Skyline Games to Farmingdale State

PALISADES PARK, N.J. - The Yeshiva University baseball team dropped two Skyline games to Farmingdale State College, by scores of 24-3 and 15-2, at Palisades Park on Friday afternoon. The Rams advance to 12-5 overall, and 3-1 in the Skyline, while the Maccabees drop to 1-13 for the season, and 0-8 in the conference.

The Rams stormed out of the gate in the opening game, scoring eight runs in each of the first two innings, and never looked back. All 12 Farmingdale hits during the first couple of innings were singles, including a two-run hit off the bat of junior first baseman Morgan McCarthy. Farmingdale added six more runs in the seventh to earn the convincing opening-game victory.

The Maccabees only produced two hits in game one, but stole six bases. Sophomore pitcher Dovie Solomon, senior left fielder Aryeh Salovey, and sophomore right fielder Avi Nat each scored for the Maccabees. Junior shortstop Alex Malech and third-year third baseman Mordy Kirsch each hit a single with the former drawing a walk and the latter picking up a stolen base. Salovey drew a walk and stole two bases, while senior second baseman Shmuel Silverstein earned a base on balls and successfully stole a base. Solomon drew a walk and added a stolen base, while sophomore infielder Moshe Stuart registered a stolen base of his own.

On the mound, second-year pitcher Yosef Rosenfield started the game and took the loss, while Kirsch made his collegiate debut on the mound and struck out three batters in three innings out of the bullpen. He held the Rams scoreless for the first two frames.

Farmingdale State registered 22 hits in the first contest. McCarthy drove in four runs and scored twice. Junior second baseman Tyler Schrimpf went 3-for-4, including an RBI double, while driving in three runs and crossing home plate once. Freshman pitcher Robert Belotti picked up his first victory of the season on the mound.

In game two, junior right fielder Vincent Rice drilled an RBI triple to right center field, and third-year second baseman Brian Perez hit an inside-the-park home run to the same spot, to propel the Rams to 15 more runs and a game two victory to clinch the sweep.

Yeshiva manufactured its runs by a sacrifice fly to center off the bat of Solomon and an RBI courtesy of a fielder's choice by Silverstein. Solomon and Nat once again scored for the Maccabees.

At the plate, Salovey went 2-for-3 with a double. Junior shortstop Zachary Baly also went 2-for-3, while drawing a walk and stealing a base. Malech slapped a pair of singles and successfully stole a base, while Nat had a single and a stolen base of his own. Solomon, freshman first baseman David Kreisberg, and sophomore catcher SJ Tannenbaum each produced a one-base hit.

On the mound, Solomon fanned five hitters in six innings, but took the loss. Malech tossed a scoreless inning in relief.

For Farmingdale, McCarthy went 2-for-4 and scored a pair of runs. Senior pitcher Kenneth Simco got the win out of the bullpen, as he gave up no earned runs in 3.2 innings pitched.

Yeshiva will travel to Kings Point, N.Y., on Sunday, to take on the United States Merchant Marine Academy in a pair of Skyline games. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
