PATCHOGUE, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University men's tennis team earned a convincing Skyline victory over St. Joseph's College Long Island, 8-1, at the SJC Outdoor Field Complex on Sunday afternoon. Thanks to the win, Yeshiva clinches a spot in the Skyline Conference Championships.
The Maccabees (11-7, 6-0 Skyline) also extend their Skyline winning streak to 36 matches.
In Sunday's contest, Yeshiva won all three doubles flights over St. Joseph's (3-7, 0-5 Skyline), and took five out of the six singles matchups.
Freshman
Aaron Cohen and junior
Yoni Sacknovitz teamed up to win every game at the first doubles position. Cohen won all 12 games at No. 1 singles, while Sacknovitz was victorious at No. 4 singles, 6-4, 6-0.
First-year player
Amram Wahnon and classmate
Meir Melamed cruised to a win at No. 2 doubles, 8-1. Wahnon earned the victory at No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-1. Melamed dominated his No. 5 singles flight by winning both sets, 6-1.
Junior
Alexander Kalb and sophomore
Jonathan Kestenbaum won eight out of nine games at No. 3 doubles. Kalb returned to win at the third singles position, 6-1, 6-0.
Yeshiva will host the United States Merchant Marine Academy, in the regular season finale, on Tuesday evening. If the Macs win, they will clinch the No. 1 seed in the Skyline Conference Championships. First serve between the Maccabees and Mariners at the Binghamton Racquet Club is scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
