EDGEWATER, N.J. – The Yeshiva University men's tennis team earned a Skyline Conference victory over Purchase College, 8-1, at the Binghamton Racquet Club, on Sunday afternoon. Yeshiva remains unbeaten in conference play at 4-0 (9-6 overall) and has now won 34 consecutive conference matches. The Panthers drop their first match of the year to fall to 2-1 in league matches and 5-1 for the season.
"These guys came up big today," Yeshiva University head coach
Jon Rubinstein said. "We knew going into the match how tough Purchase can be, especially having just beaten the defending finalists Merchant Marine."
Freshman
Aaron Cohen and junior
Lior Brik were victorious in a tight first doubles match, 8-6. Freshman
Meir Melamed and sophomore
Ezra Rudansky won a close third doubles flight, 8-6.
"First and third doubles really stepped up," Rubinstein said. "Winning those matches took a lot of pressure off for singles and allowed us to relax and play our game."
Senior
Mikey Ozery and junior
Avidan Rudansky were victorious at No. 2 doubles, 8-1.
Cohen returned in singles play and won the second flight, 6-2, 6-2. Brik cruised to a win at the third position, 6-1, 6-2.
Avidan Rudansky won a competitive fourth singles battle, 7-5, 6-4, while junior
Alexander Kalb was victorious at the fifth position, 6-1, 6-4. Classmate
Yoni Sacknovitz earned a No. 6 singles win, 6-2, 6-0.
Yeshiva will continue Skyline Conference play on Wednesday, against St. Joseph's College Brooklyn at the USTA National Tennis Center, beginning at 7:00 p.m.
