NEW YORK, N.Y. – The No. 1 Yeshiva University men's tennis team will host No. 2 Farmingdale State College, in the Skyline Conference championship match, on Sunday afternoon. First serve at the Binghamton Racquet Club is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
The winner of Sunday's championship match will receive an automatic bid into the NCAA Division III tournament. The Maccabees will look to win their sixth straight conference championship, while the Rams are aiming to win their first league title since 2013.
Yeshiva went undefeated in Skyline play during the regular season, while Farmingdale State went 6-1 in conference matches. The Rams' only Skyline blemish came against Yeshiva, out on Long Island. The Maccabees trailed 4-1 in the match but won the next two singles contests to pull to within one. Freshman
Aaron Cohen was able to tie the match thanks to his win at No. 2 singles, 6-3, 6-4. Junior
Avidan Rudansky earned a come-from-behind win at No. 4 singles, that clinched the Skyline victory for Yeshiva, which made the difference in allowing YU to host the championship match instead of FSC.
In the Skyline semifinal round, the Maccabees defeated the No. 4 Mariners of Merchant Marine, 6-1. The Rams narrowly defeated the No. 3 Panthers of Purchase College, 5-4.
Leading the way for Yeshiva has been Cohen, who won all five of his Skyline singles matches during the regular season. Two of those victories came at the No. 1 position. The first-year standout is 12-6 in singles contests, overall. Cohen has won four out of five conference doubles flights in his young career. He won his second doubles and second singles flights in the Skyline semifinal match against USMMA.
Senior
Mikey Ozery has won all four of his Skyline doubles matches, so far this year. Two have come at the first position, and the other two have occurred in the second flight. Overall, Ozery has won 10 out of 14 doubles contests, in 2018-19.
For Farmingdale State, freshman Mark Baker is 12-0 in No. 1 singles flights, and 12-1 in No. 1 doubles matches, this season. Baker won at No. 1 singles over Purchase College, in the Skyline semifinal round, 6-3, 6-3.
