Women's Soccer Falls in Competitive Match to Fisher College

NEW YORK – The Yeshiva University women's soccer team opened the 2019 season with a hard-fought loss to Fisher College, 4-2, at Randall's Island Field 10 on Friday afternoon.

The Maccabees were outscored, 2-1, in each half.

The Falcons got off to a strong start, as freshman forward Olivia Sullivan scored the first two goals of the match (seventh minute and 19th minute) to put the Maccabees at a two-goal disadvantage. Yeshiva would not go down without a fight, as junior defender Elizabeth Pavel earned a free kick and rifled the ball inside the upper 90 of the net to slice the deficit in half.

In the second half, Fisher regained its two-goal lead thanks to junior midfielder Grace Roach's first tally of the year, during the 65th minute. YU answered less than four minutes later, as sophomore midfielder Dafna Levine executed a through pass to junior forward Malky Perlberger, who dribbled the ball down the field and poked the ball past the goalkeeper, one-on-one, to pull the Macs to within a goal.

The Maccabees had chances to tie the game but could not capitalize. Pavel shot the ball from just outside the box, during the 87th minute, but was denied by freshman goalkeeper Kasilyn Lima. Just over a minute later, Roach received the ball from Sullivan and guided it into the top right corner of the cage for her second tally of the afternoon, putting her team back up by two goals.

Fisher went on to win the contest, 4-2.

For the afternoon, the Falcons had a slight edge in shots, 16-14. Each team had four corner kicks.

Sophomore goalkeeper Shani Kravetz made six saves for the Maccabees, while her counterpart Lima turned aside just as many shots.

Yeshiva will host The King's College (N.Y.), on Randall's Island Field 74, on Sunday afternoon. The contest will begin at 1:00 p.m.
