Men's Soccer Drops Skyline Opener to Mount Saint Mary College

NEWBURGH, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University men's soccer team dropped its Skyline Conference opener to Mount Saint Mary College, 5-1, at Kaplan Field on Wednesday evening. The Maccabees fall to 2-2 (0-1 Skyline), while the Knights advance to 3-3 (1-0 Skyline).

MSMC scored two goals in the final 5:39 of the match to pull away and had five different goal scorers for the evening.

Yeshiva's lone tally came courtesy of freshman midfielder Jess Rom, as he received the pass from sophomore forward Ethan Fettaya and rifled the ball into the net from 35 yards out to tie the match, 1-1, during the 11th minute. It's the second goal Rom has scored in his young career.

Mount Saint Mary countered just under 28 minutes later, as senior midfielder Tyler Vermilyea kicked the ball into the back of the cage, from the top right section of the box, to give the home team the lead for good.

The Knights added three more goals in the second half to secure the Skyline-opening victory.

For the Maccabees, Junior goalkeeper Sagi Badash turned aside four shots for the evening.

Yeshiva will be back in Skyline action on Friday, when the Maccabees play the host Gryphons of Sarah Lawrence College, at Tibbetts Brook Park. The match is scheduled to begin at 12:00 p.m.
