Men's Soccer Rallies to Earn Tie Against Sarah Lawrence College

YONKERS, N.Y. - The Yeshiva University men's soccer team rallied from two goals down late in the second half to earn a tie against Sarah Lawrence College, 2-2, at Fleming Field on Friday afternoon.

The Maccabees (2-2-1, 0-1-1 Skyline) trailed, 2-0, with under 11 minutes remaining in regulation. YU's rally began when junior forward Isaac Bendahan received a cross inside the top of the box, from freshman defender Kevin Kozba, and lined the ball into the back of the cage to pull the Blue and White to within one, with 10:38 left to play in the second half. Just over six minutes later, sophomore forward Meir Levy collected the loose ball that was deflected off a Gryphons' (2-2-1, 0-0-1 Skyline) defender and rifled it into the net to even the match at 2-2, with 4:37 remaining.

Neither team could generate a quality scoring chance in the closing minutes of the second half, so extra time was needed. In the first overtime period, each team produced a shot on goal but could not tally the game-winner. The first 10 minutes of extra time concluded with the contest still knotted at 2-2.

In the second overtime period, Sarah Lawrence had multiple opportunities to win the match. First-year forward Sinjin Mendenhall, who already scored both goals for the Gryphons (43rd minute and 62nd minute) lined a shot, but was blocked. He grabbed the rebound and shot it on target, but was denied by junior goalkeeper Sagi Badash.

With less than a minute to go in the contest, it was Yeshiva's turn to attack as junior forward Zachary Stauber kicked the ball just over the net. With 21 ticks left on the clock, sophomore defender Dov Jacobson gathered the ball and shot it towards the net but was stopped by sophomore goalkeeper Aaron Ashery. The match would end in a tie and each team gained a point in the Skyline standings.

For the afternoon, SLC had the advantage in shots, 20-16, while Yeshiva had the slight edge in corner kicks, 5-4.

Badash made nine saves for the Maccabees, while his counterpart Ashery turned aside six shots.

Yeshiva will host St. Joseph's College Long Island, in a Skyline battle at Veteran's Sports Park, on Tuesday. The match is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m.
