NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University women's tennis team continued its winning ways on Thursday evening, defeating Skyline foe St. Joseph's College Brooklyn by a score of 9-0, at the New Rochelle Racquet Club. The Maccabees remain undefeated, advancing to 4-0 overall and 3-0 in conference play. It's the strongest start for Yeshiva since 2016.
"So far we are having a stellar start to the season, there is lots to be proud of from this roster," Yeshiva University Head Coach
Danielle Carr said. "There is a definite change in this team: Positive energy, unity, fortitude, effort, among other things."
Senior
Bailey Frohlich had a strong performance. First, she teamed with classmate
Michal Ladenheim to earn a convincing win at No. 1 doubles, 8-1. She then returned to the court and won every game in the first singles position. Ladenheim was victorious at No. 4 singles, 6-3, 6-0.
Junior
Leora Moskowitz and senior
Shana Adler cruised to a win at No. 2 doubles, 8-1. Adler also picked up a win at No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-4, while Moskowitz claimed the third singles flight, 6-1, 6-4.
Senior
Deborah Frewa won every game in both her No. 3 doubles match (with junior
Alexandra Huberfeld) and at No. 5 singles. Senior
Amanda Berlin was victorious at No. 6 singles, 6-2, 6-0.
"Tonight was a definitive and redemptive win, but the season is far from over and the most important thing we can do is stay focused and stay humble," Carr said. "We cannot take anything for granted. In tennis, everything must be fought for and earned."
Yeshiva will host Baruch College, in a non-conference match at the Cary Leeds Center, on Sunday afternoon. First serve is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
