Men's Soccer Scores Shorthanded Goal but Falls to Manhattanville

TEANECK, N.J. - The Yeshiva University men's soccer team suffered a Skyline Conference loss to Manhattanville College, 6-2, at Votee Park on Sunday evening.

The Valiants (4-2-1, 1-0-0 Skyline) scored two goals in the opening half. The Maccabees (2-5-1, 0-4-1 Skyline) got one back, 5:58 into the second period, as junior forward Isaac Bendahan took a feed from classmate Zachary Stauber from inside the box and tipped the ball into the net to slice YU's deficit to one goal.

However, less than a minute later, junior midfielder Marius Nicolaysen scored a penalty kick goal to extend Manhattanville's lead to 3-1. Beginning with 52nd minute, Yeshiva had to play the rest of the match down a man. The Valiants took advantage by tallying goals in the 53rd, 56th, and 59th minute to put YU in a 6-1 hole.

Despite being on the short side of 11-on-10 play, Yeshiva kept battling. Freshman forward Refael Minsky collected the loose ball inside the box and fed it to junior defender Charles Schaechter, who tipped the ball into the back of the net for his first collegiate goal, narrowing Manhattanville's lead to 6-2. That ended up being the final score.

For the evening, the Valiants outshot the Maccabees, 28-10, and earned all seven corner kick opportunities. Junior goalkeeper Sagi Badash made nine saves for Yeshiva, while freshman net-minder Benjamin Brener stopped a pair of shots in his collegiate debut for the Blue and White.

Yeshiva will return to Votee Park on Tuesday, for a matinee match against Farmingdale State College. The Skyline contest will begin at 12:30 p.m.
