BRONX – The Yeshiva University women's volleyball team suffered a non-conference loss to Lehman College, in straight sets, at the APEX Main Gym on Wednesday evening. Set scores were 25-13, 25-12, and 25-19.
Senior right side hitter
Batya Schreier led all players with six digs and had a team-high seven assists. Sophomore middle blocker
Devorah Chasen produced four kills, while junior outside hitter
Rebekah Bargraser slammed home three kills and scored a pair of aces. Sophomore outside hitter
Maya Rosen had a team-high four aces and contributed on defense with two digs.
The Lightning went on an 8-1 run in the mid-stages of the first set to take a commanding 19-10 advantage. Yeshiva never recovered as the home team went on to win the first game, 25-13.
Lehman surged to a 14-2 run in the second stanza that put the Blue and Gold up, 22-8. The Maccabees could not generate a run to get the set close, as the Lightning took a commanding 2-0 lead in the match.
YU fell behind, 18-11, in the third game. However, the Macs would not go down without a fight, as back-to-back aces by Rosen, and a kill by Chasen, sparked a 6-0 run to pull Yeshiva to within one, at 18-17. However, Lehman shifted momentum back into its favor by scoring seven out of the match's last nine points to earn the non-conference victory.
For the Maccabees, junior outside hitter
Shayna Herszage produced two digs, while sophomore outside hitter
Suzanne Wallach scored an ace and added a dig of her own.
Yeshiva will open Skyline play at home, on Tuesday, as the Maccabees host the Panthers of Purchase College. First serve at the ARC Arena is scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
