EDGEWATER, N.J. – The Yeshiva University men's tennis team earned a non-conference victory over Hunter College, 8-1, at the Binghamton Racquet Club on Sunday afternoon. The Maccabees advance to 2-2, while the Hawks start their season 0-1.
"I was impressed with how fired up the guys were for our first Division III match of the spring season," Yeshiva University Head Coach
Jon Rubinstein said. "They came out hot and didn't take the foot off the pedal."
The Maccabees won two out of three doubles flights and went 6-0 in singles play. Senior
Lior Brik and sophomore
Amram Wahnon earned a hard-fought win at No. 1 doubles, 8-3. "Impressive victory at first doubles against a tricky team," Rubinstein said.
Sophomore
Aaron Cohen and senior
Avidan Rudansky were victorious at No. 2 doubles, 8-2.
Cohen returned to pick up a victory in the first singles position, 6-2, 6-4. Brik was victorious in the second flight, 6-3, 6-0. Wahnon claimed the No. 3 singles battle, 6-0, 6-2, while sophomore
Samuel Edery won every game in both sets at No. 5 singles. Freshman
Anthony Lallouz won the sixth position, 6-0, 6-2.
Senior
Alexander Kalb won a tight match at the No. 4 spot, 7-6 (3), 6-4. "Alex really battled well against a tough opponent," Rubinstein said. "It was great to watch someone play out of his comfort zone because that was what was necessary to win."
Yeshiva will return to the Binghamton Racquet Club on Tuesday evening, for a non-conference match against Oneonta College, beginning at 8:00 p.m.
