NEW YORK – The Yeshiva University women's volleyball team dropped its Skyline Conference match to Maritime College, in straight sets, on Tuesday evening. Set scores were 25-14, 25-16, and 25-8.
Leading the way for the Maccabees (0-4, 0-4 Skyline) was sophomore outside hitter
Shira Sredni who tallied five kills, anchored the defense with seven digs, and scored three service aces. Senior outside hitter
Rebekah Bargraser slammed home four kills and had just as many digs. Sophomore defensive specialist
Ashley Botnick had a solid match with three assists and five digs, while junior setter
Tali Miller had a team-best five assists to go along with a pair of digs and a block.
After the Blue and White fell behind in the opening set, 13-5, sophomore middle blocker
Hannah Aaron slammed home a kill that highlighted four unanswered points to pull the home team to within four. However, the Privateers (3-9, 1-5 Skyline) countered by scoring four of the game's next five points to pad their advantage. Yeshiva could not get back into the set as Maritime won the opening game, 25-14.
Yeshiva got off to a strong start in the second set, as back-to-back kills by Aaron and Bargraser gave the home team a 3-1 lead. Maritime responded with a 7-1 blitz to take the lead in the second set for good. Yeshiva escaped a pair of Maritime set-point opportunities thanks to a kill by sophomore setter

th point to go up, 2-0, in the match.
The visiting team led from wire-to-wire in the third set to earn its first conference victory of the season.
For YU, Raskin had two kills, three assists, and just as many digs. Aaron had a pair of kills and a block. Junior right side hitter
Emily Zrihen slammed home a kill, while sophomore setter
Zoey Botnick chipped in on defense with a dig.
For Maritime, senior middle blocker Celyna Custodio had a match-high seven kills, while junior setter Brooke Kirchner led all players with 15 assists and seven service aces.
Yeshiva will take on Purchase College, in a Skyline Conference contest at Purchase College Gymnasium, on Thursday evening. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
