Men's Soccer Can't Overcome Slow Start Against USMMA

KINGS POINT, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University men's soccer team suffered a setback on Sunday afternoon, dropping its Skyline match to the United States Merchant Marine Academy, 4-2. The matchup took place at Bartoszek Field.

After falling behind, 4-0, Yeshiva (2-5, 2-4 Skyline) rallied with two goals in the late stages of the match but could not complete the comeback.

Sophomore defender Asher Martin provided the first tally for the Maccabees in the 76th minute as he drove down the right side and rifled the ball past the opposing goalkeeper for his first collegiate career goal. Just under six minutes later, sophomore forward Joshua Ziarno received the ball off classmate Naor Dahan's corner kick and drilled it into the net to slice the Maccabees' deficit to two with 8:59 remaining in regulation time.

Yeshiva was shut down from that point, as Merchant Marine (10-6, 7-2 Skyline) was able to hang on to the conference win.

For the match, the Maccabees were outshot, 24 -10. The Mariners had the advantage in corner kicks, 9-2.

Junior goalkeeper Benjamin Brener stopped six shots for YU.

Yeshiva will travel to Throggs Neck on Tuesday for a Skyline matchup against Maritime College. The conference clash is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.
