Men's Tennis Kicks Off Season With Victory at Albertus Magnus College

NEW HAVEN, Conn – The Yeshiva University men's tennis team opened the 2021-22 season with an impressive non-conference victory over Albertus Magnus College, 6-3, at the Celentano Courts on Sunday afternoon.

The Maccabees (1-0) won two out of three doubles flights and went 4-2 in singles play.

"Great team effort to start the season," Yeshiva University Head Coach Jon Rubinstein said. "I was happy with how we played considering it was less than a week since we started tryouts and was the first match at YU for over half the guys."

In doubles, junior Anthony Lallouz teamed with newcomer Joseph Abrahams to win the second flight, 8-6. Rookie Maxwell Grunstein and junior Yoni Mayer combined to win the third doubles position, 8-5.

First-year player Tomer Mendler got his collegiate career off to a great start by winning the No. 1 singles flight, 6-2, 6-4. Senior Aaron Singer claimed the No. 4 singles match, 6-2, 6-1. Newcomer Sion Jacobo won every game at No. 5 singles. Fellow rookie Yedidya Schechter cruised to a No. 6 singles victory, 6-1, 6-2.

"There is certainly a lot of potential with this team in 2022," Rubinstein said.

Yeshiva will return to the court this spring.
