FAIRFIELD, N.J. – The Yeshiva University men's tennis team suffered a heartbreaking loss to Baruch College, 5-4, at the Fairfield Racquet Club on Sunday evening.
With the match tied at four, junior Jim Bauer won the match-deciding singles battle, at the No. 3 position, 6-3, 7-5, to clinch the victory for the Bearcats (1-0).
Yeshiva (1-1) got off to a strong start, winning two out of three doubles flights. Seniors
Aaron Cohen and
Eli Hanuka won at the second position, 8-4. Third-year player
Anthony Lallouz and freshman
Sion Jacobo won a tight match at the third spot, 8-7.
After Yeshiva dropped the first two singles matchups, sophomore
Akiva Ackerman earned a convincing victory at the sixth position, 6-1, 6-1. Graduate student
Tomer Mendler continued YU's momentum with a win at the first flight, 6-4, 7-5, to give Yeshiva a 4-3 advantage in the match. However, Baruch won the last two singles matchups to earn the come-from-behind team victory by a score of 5-4.
Yeshiva will battle Bard College, at the Steven Athletic Center Tennis Courts, next Sunday. First serve is scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
