TEANECK, N.J. – The Yeshiva University men's soccer team's winning ways continued Thursday night as the Maccabees topped Skyline rival St. Joseph's College Brooklyn, 3-0, at Votee Park. The Macs have now won three of their last four league contests and move into sole possession of the sixth and final Skyline playoff spot with 12 points.
"Tonight, we took a big step towards securing a playoff spot," Yeshiva University Head Coach
J.J. Davidson said. "But we need to finish the job! We will rest up tomorrow, the next few days, and then go again on Sunday."
Both teams were scoreless after 45 minutes of play but then Yeshiva (4-5-0, 4-4-0 Skyline) exploded with three goals in under 10 minutes during the early stages of the second half. Junior forward
Ethan Fettaya tallied the first two goals just 30 seconds apart from each other (49
th and 50
th minute). He struck the first time by settling the ball off a deflection and rifling it into the back of the cage from the right side of the box. Just a half-minute later, Fettaya received the ball off a quick pass from junior midfielder
Jess Rom and propelled it top shelf inside the net to extend Yeshiva's lead to two. Fettaya now has five goals so far this year.
Less than nine minutes later, first-year midfielder
Naor Dahan executed a through pass to sophomore forward
Lucas Baredes who sprinted down the field and beat the opposing goalkeeper for his fourth tally of the season and padding YU's lead to 3-0. That would be the final score.
Yeshiva doubled St. Joseph's College Brooklyn (4-7-2, 2-5-2 Skyline) in shots, 16-8. The Bears had the edge in corner kicks, 4-2.
Senior goalkeeper
Sagi Badash made five saves to earn his second shutout victory of the season.
The Maccabees will look to continue their momentum on Sunday with a Skyline clash against the Rams of Farmingdale State College. The conference showdown at Votee Park is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
