Men's Soccer Clinches Spot in Skyline Championships With Victory Over Sarah Lawrence College

YONKERS, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University men's soccer team punched its ticket to the Skyline Conference Championships for the second time in program history, thanks to a 6-0 shutout victory over Sarah Lawrence College at Fleming Field, on Wednesday evening. It's YU's first appearance in the conference tournament since the 2015 season.

"I'm so proud of this group for making history tonight!" Yeshiva University Head Coach J.J. Davidson said. "But we know what our season objective is, and this is just the beginning! We'll enjoy tonight but tomorrow we're back on the training ground."

Leading the way for Yeshiva (5-6-0, 5-5-0 Skyline) was junior forward Ethan Fettaya who tallied a pair of goals and had just as many assists. He now has eight goals and 19 points so far this season. Senior goalkeeper Sagi Badash earned his third shutout of the year.

The Maccabees struck first in the seventh minute, as freshman forward David Abittan buried his second goal of the season to give the Macs a 1-0 advantage. Just 31 seconds later, Fettaya fed the ball to rookie forward Lucas Baredes, who found the back of the net to extend the Blue and White's lead to a pair of goals. It's Baredes' fifth goal of the season.

Yeshiva was not done in the opening half, as junior midfielder Jess Rom rifled the ball into the low left side of the net for his second tally of the season and increasing YU's advantage to 3-0. That would be the score after 45 minutes of play.

In the second half, Fettaya recorded his second helper of the evening in the 58th minute as he set up sophomore forward Rafael Cohen, who found the back of the cage for his third goal of the year to pad the Maccabees' lead to 4-0. Fettaya capped YU's offensive attack by scoring the evening's last two goals, the first during the 68th minute and the second with 10 seconds left to play, to secure a spot in the Skyline Championships for the Maccabees.

For the match, YU had the advantage in shots, 17-5. Sarah Lawrence (4-12-1, 2-8-1 Skyline) had nine out of the 13 corner kick opportunities.

Yeshiva will conclude the regular season on Friday afternoon, against St, Joseph's College Long Island, at Passidomo Park. The action begins at 1:00 p.m. Be sure to check out YUmacs.com and our social media channels for all the latest updates on YU's first round opponent, location, date, time, Skyline bracket, and more.
