Box Score NEW YORK – The Yeshiva University women's volleyball team battled Pratt on Senior Day, at the Max Stern Athletic Center, on Sunday afternoon. YU fought hard but fell in straight sets (25-14, 25-11, and 25-10).
Prior to the match, Yeshiva University honored its three graduating seniors
Sarina Hilowitz,
Suzanne Wallach, and
Rebekah Bargraser.
The Maccabees (0-13) got off to a good start as
Hannah Aaron slammed home a kill to open the scoring for the match. Later in the set, with Pratt (15-6) in the lead,
Emily Zrihen executed a service ace and Aaron tallied another kill to narrow YU's disadvantage to 11-10. After the Cannoneers extended their hold to 15-10, Aaron had yet another successful attack to cap off a 3-0 YU run to shrink the opposition's lead to 15-13. After each team scored a point, Pratt finished the set with nine unanswered points to go up 1-0 in the match.
After dropping the second set, Yeshiva fell behind by a score of 15-5 in the third. Wallach made her Senior Day a memorable one by slamming home back-to-back kills to shrink the Blue and White's deficit to eight. It would not be enough, as Pratt went on to win the set and clinch the non-conference victory.
For the Maccabees, Aaron had six kills, a block, and a dig.
Aleesa Elbaum and
Ashley Botnick each led YU's defense with seven digs with the latter tallying a kill and an assist.
Zoey Botnick had a career-high eight assists and produced a pair of digs.
Shira Sredni had five digs and an ace, while
Emily Zrihen had a solid match with two kills, four digs, a service ace, and a block. Wallach added a dig to go along with her two kills.
For Pratt, Olivia Julich recorded nine kills, while Josie Johnson scored eight service aces and had just as many digs. Gabby Genduso had five kills and seven aces. Hannah Leitten produced 20 assists and five aces.
Yeshiva will battle Five Towns College, out on Long Island, on Tuesday evening. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
