NEW YORK – For the first time since 2019, the Yeshiva University women's volleyball team returned to action. After showing some rust in the opening set, the Maccabees (0-1, 0-1 Skyline) improved in the second and third games but ended up falling to Skyline opponent Sarah Lawrence College, 3-0. Set scores at the Max Stern Athletic Center were 25-4, 25-14, and 25-12.
Leading the way for Yeshiva was rookie outside hitter
Shira Sredni, who had team-highs in kills (4) and service aces (3), while contributing on defense with four digs. Sophomore libero
Aleesa Elbaum anchored the defense with seven digs. First-year middle blocker
Hannah Aaron slammed home three kills, and had a pair of digs, while sophomore setter
Keren Raskin led the Maccabees with six assists.
After struggling in the opening set, Yeshiva fell behind by a score of 14-4 in the second frame. The Maccabees would not go down without a fight, as Sredni produced a kill and then scored back-to-back aces to spark a 7-1 run that narrowed Sarah Lawrence's (8-8, 5-0 Skyline) advantage to 15-11. However, the visiting team countered with a 10-3 blitz to clinch the second stanza and pad its match-lead to 2-0.
With YU trailing 10-3 in the third game, Sredni added a kill and an ace that propelled Yeshiva to three unanswered points to pull to within four. However, the Gryphons were able to pull away and earn the Skyline victory in three sets.
For the match, junior setter
Tali Miller contributed with three assists and just as many digs. Sophomore setter
Ashley Botnick produced a pair of digs, while senior outside hitter
Rebekah Bargraser had a kill, one block, a dig, and an assist. Junior right side hitters
Devorah Batt and
