NEWBURGH, N.Y. - The Yeshiva University women's tennis team suffered a narrow Skyline Conference loss to Mount Saint Mary College, 5-4, at the Mount Saint Mary College Tennis Courts on Tuesday evening.
The duo of juniors,
Esther Ackerman and
Elisheva Gofman. combined to win a close No. 1 doubles match, 8-7 (5) to give the Maccabees (0-1, 0-1 Skyline) a 1-0 lead in the match. Sophomores
Liana Friedman and
Tali Kletnicki followed with a tight victory at the second doubles position, 8-6.
Ackerman continued Yeshiva's momentum with a victory at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-2. However, the Knights (5-2, 1-2 Skyline) won the next two singles battles. Kletnicki was victorious at No. 5 singles, 6-3, 6-2, to extend YU's lead to 4-2, but Mount Saint Mary won the remaining matches to earn the come-from-behind Skyline victory, 5-4.
Yeshiva will host Farmingdale State College, on Wednesday evening, at the USTA National Tennis Center. First serve is scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
