Men's Volleyball Drops Skyline Match to St. Joseph's College Long Island

NEW YORK – The Yeshiva University men's volleyball team dropped its Skyline Conference matchup to St. Joseph's College Long Island, in straight sets at the Max Stern Athletic Center, on Wednesday evening. Set scores were 25-8, 25-12, and 25-8.

For the Maccabees (0-3, 0-3 Skyline), junior middle blocker Alon Jakubowitz slammed home a pair of kills and had just as many blocks. Senior libero Shimon Ohana chipped in with three digs, while junior Michael Stark and graduate setter Sibi Selvarajah each recorded two digs.

Yeshiva had an early lead in each of the first two sets, but St. Joseph's Long Island (1-0, 1-0 Skyline) responded twice with big runs to not only jump out in front for good, but also put each stanza out of reach for YU. The Golden Eagles never trailed in the third set as they went on to earn the season-opening league victory.

As a team, St. Joseph's Long Island produced a hitting percentage of .375. Freshman outside hitter Mark Williams led the way with nine kills, just as many digs, and seven service aces.

These two teams will meet each other again on Sunday, this time in a doubleheader at the Danzi Center. First serve of the afternoon is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
