PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University baseball team dropped a pair of games to Manhattanville College (16-2 and 10-2,) at the Manhattanville Baseball Stadium, on Monday afternoon.
Leading the way for the Maccabees (0-8, 0-6 Skyline) was junior third baseman
David Kreisberg, who went 3-for-6 during the doubleheader, including a pair of RBI singles.
In the opening game, Manhattanville (9-7, 8-6 Skyline) scored 13 runs over the first two innings and never looked back. YU's bats came to life in the bottom of the fourth, as Kreisberg launched the ball over the Valiants' center fielder to drive in senior
David Hanelin from second base to put Yeshiva on the board. During the next inning, it was Hanelin's turn to drive in a run as he slapped a base hit to right center field to score junior second baseman
Jacob Schwartzman for YU's second run of the game. It was not enough as Manhattanville earned the victory in game one.
For the Macs, sophomore second baseman
Joey Kalish reached base with a single, while Hanelin drew a walk and stole a base. Senior designated hitter
Zachary Baly also reached base.
On the mound, junior pitcher
Adam Zahler pitched three innings out of the bullpen and gave up just one earned run. Senior pitcher Rob McGuinness started the opening contest and earned the win for the Valiants.
In the second game, Manhattanville scored five runs during the first two innings to take the lead for good. With the Blue and White down by eight runs in the bottom of the fifth, Kreisberg poked a base hit through the left side to score Hanelin from third for Yeshiva's first run of game two.
In the bottom of the seventh, Schwartzman capitalized with an infield single that scored junior infielder
Judah Blonder to cap off the run production for YU. However, the Valiants got the final out to clinch the sweep.
For Yeshiva, sophomore shortstop
Ari Rosenberg led off with a double in the bottom of the first. Kreisberg went 2-for-3, while Kalish once again reached base with a single. At the plate, sophomore third baseman
Charles Bendheim produced a single and had a solid outing on the mound, giving up just one earned run in two innings of relief. Sophomore pitcher Joe Lacoparra was credited with the win out of the bullpen for Manhattanville.
Yeshiva will take on Purchase College, in a Skyline Conference doubleheader at the Purchase College Baseball Field, on Friday morning. First pitch is scheduled for 10:00 a.m.
