Women's Volleyball Unable to Keep Up With Farmingdale State College

NEW YORK – The Yeshiva University women's volleyball team dropped its Skyline Conference match to Farmingdale State College, in straight sets, at ARC Arena on Tuesday evening. Set scores were 25-11, 25-10, and 25-16.

Leading the attack for the Maccabees (1-12, 0-9 Skyline) was freshman Shany Elmaleh who slammed home eight kills. The North Hollywood native also had a dig and an assist. Junior Ashley Botnick led all players with 17 digs, while providing a pair of assists and a kill. Senior Emily Zrihen had a productive match with five kills, two digs, a block, and an ace.  Senior Tali Miller registered five assists and a dig, while junior Zoey Botnick had three assists and four digs. Classmate Aleesa Elbaum had five digs and an assist.

In the opening set, Yeshiva managed to tie Farmingdale (13-7, 9-1 Skyline), 4-4, but the Rams went on a 15-4 run to take a commanding hold it would not surrender for the remainder of the stanza. In the second set, Elmaleh took the pass from Zoey Botnick and tallied a kill to narrow YU's deficit to 14-9. Farmingdale responded by scoring 11 of the game's final 12 points to go up, 2-0, in the match.

In the third frame, Elmaleh nailed another kill to narrow the Rams' lead to 13-9. However, the visiting team countered with a 7-2 run to take a commanding 20-11 benefit. The Macs were even with the Rams in scoring the rest of the way, but it was not enough as Farmingdale clinched the set and secured the sweep.

For the Rams, senior Kate Flamio led all players with 10 kills and six service aces. Senior Madisyn Pozo anchored the defense with 14 digs, while sophomore Mikayla Profeta generated four kills, three aces, and 10 digs.

Yeshiva will battle College of Mount Saint Vincent, at Peter Jay Sharp Center, on Thursday evening. First serve is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
