FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University women's tennis team's strong 2022 campaign came to an end on Thursday evening, as the fourth-seeded Maccabees fell short in their Skyline Semifinal match to the top-seeded Rams of Farmingdale State College, 5-0, at the Farmingdale Tennis Courts. The Rams (11-4) earn a berth in the Skyline Championship match for the fourth year in a row.
It was a strong fall season for Yeshiva (5-4), as the Macs earned their first appearance in the Skyline Championships since 2019, despite having a roster of seven newcomers and only three returners.
Leading the way for YU during the league playoff match were rookies
Sarah Leiderman and
Sarah Grunseid, as they won five games at No. 3 doubles. First-year phenom
Shira Adler had a strong performance in the second set of her fourth singles flight as she claimed four games, but it was not enough. Leiderman had a close No. 5 singles match, trailing by only one game in the opening set, but the semifinal match concluded before the flight was completed.
Propelling the Maccabees this fall were Leiderman and Adler. The former went 6-2 in singles play and 5-3 in doubles competition, while the latter won six of nine singles flights and had a record of 5-4 in doubles matches.
The young and talented YU women's tennis program will return to action in the spring.
