MADISON, N.J. – Two rookies on the Yeshiva University men's tennis team,
Pinny Balsam and
Jonah Herman, competed in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Northeast Regional, at the Drew University Tennis Complex, this past Friday morning and Sunday afternoon. The two Maccabees battled hard against some of the best players in the nation.
Balsam and Herman each competed in a singles battle during the opening round of the single-elimination tournament. Balsam fell to Igor Visnevskij from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, 6-1, 6-1. Herman dropped his match to Brendan Jimenez from Skidmore, 6-0, 6-0.
The YU duo competed in three doubles flights together. In the B Draw Bracket, they fell to William Schmid and Noah Khair of SUNY Oneonta, 6-1. They were defeated by Drew Soleiman and Kai O'Donnell of Bard College by the same score. Jeffrey Bauer and Brendan Byler from Lebanon Valley won every game over the pair of YU men's tennis rookies.
"It was such a great experience for YU to get to compete in the ITAs," Yeshiva University Head Coach
Jon Rubinstein said. "Unfortunately, the guys had really tough draws but the chance to play against some of the best competition in the country was a valuable experience I hope they remember for a long time. Hopefully we will be able to compete again in the future."
Yeshiva will return to dual-match action on Sunday, October 30, against New Jersey City University. First serve at the Lincoln Park Tennis Center is scheduled for 12:15 p.m.
