FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University baseball team dropped a pair of Skyline games to SUNY Old Westbury, 25-1 and 20-3, at the Farmingdale State Baseball Stadium on Tuesday afternoon.
Yeshiva (2-7, 0-4 Skyline) grabbed the lead in the top of the first inning during each contest, but Old Westbury (4-7, 2-0 Skyline) countered both times with a productive bottom frame to take the lead for good.
In game one, junior
Ari Rosenberg swung at the first pitch of the game and drilled a triple down the right field line. He ended up scoring on an RBI groundout by senior
Judah Blonder. The Maccabees threatened later in the frame as senior
David Kreisberg singled and sophomore
Joshua Mintz worked a walk. However, YU could not extend its lead. The Panthers scored multiple runs in each of the first three innings to put the game out of reach for YU.
During the opening game, sophomore
Sammy Greenberg went 2-for-3 for the Maccabees, while junior
Shai Rosalimsky worked a walk.
For the Panthers, senior Patrick Quinn struck out nine batters to earn the complete-game victory on the mound.
In game two, Blonder and Kreisberg each reached base with a single. They both ended up scoring thanks to errors committed by Old Westbury, allowing YU to take a 2-0 advantage. However, the Panthers scores multiple runs in all six innings to take a commanding hold. Yeshiva's lineup got back on track in the top of the seventh, as Rosenberg drilled a double to left, scoring junior
David Price, for YU's third run of the game. Price slapped a single earlier in the frame. It was not enough for YU, as Old Westbury earned the sweep.
For Yeshiva, Rosenberg went 2-for-4 with a stolen base. Blonder went 2-for-3, while senior
SJ Tannenbaum raked a double to left during the top of the seventh. Greenberg worked a walk.
For Old Westbury, senior Justin Aviles got the win by going six innings and fanning seven YU batters.
