BRONX – The Yeshiva University softball team dropped a pair of non-conference games to Lehman College, at the South Field, on Tuesday evening. Scores were 24-1 and 18-2.
In the opening game, the Lightning (2-2) scored 11 runs in the opening inning and never looked back. For the Maccabees, junior
Elisheva Miller scored YU's only run of the game. First-year player
Emuna Shiller hit a single, while graduate student
Miriam Kazlow stole a base.
For the Lightning, rookie Samantha Nazar earned the victory as she struck out 12 batters, and did not surrender an earned run, in five innings pitched.
Yeshiva was able to grab a 1-0 lead in the top half of the first inning of the second game. Kazlow set that up by leading the game off with a double. She ended up scoring the run to put YU in front. However, the Lightning once again scored 11 runs in the bottom of the first to take a commanding lead they would not surrender.
In the top of the fourth, junior
Chana Fischer and Shiller each produced a single. Fischer ended up scoring on a fielding miscue by Lehman. However, it would not be enough as the Lightning went on to earn the sweep.
For the Maccabees, junior
Yael Dannenbaum slapped a single, while Miller worked a walk.
In the circle for the Lightning, junior Sky Mercado went the distance, striking out six hitters, to earn the win.
The Maccabees are scheduled to open Skyline play on Thursday with a doubleheader against Farmingdale State College. First pitch at Silver Lake Park is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
