Baseball Drops Pair of Skyline Games to Merchant Marine

WEST HARRISON, N.Y. - The Yeshiva University baseball team dropped a pair of league games to the United States Merchant Marine Academy, 22-1 and 20-0, at Silver Lake Park on Sunday afternoon.

The Mariners (7-11, 2-2 Skyline) kicked off each game with productive first innings to take commanding leads they would not surrender. The Maccabees scored their only run of the afternoon during the bottom of the first inning in game one. Senior David Kreisberg drilled an RBI single to score junior Ari Rosenberg. For the game, senior Leib Fant went 2-for-3 at the plate. Sophomore Joshua Mintz reached base with a single and a walk. Rosenberg also singled, while stealing a base. Senior Max Leibowitz had a single and sophomore Sammy Greenberg drew a walk.

For Merchant Marine, freshman Travis Leatherwood hit an inside-the-park home run. On the mound, sophomore Kole Register earned his first win of the year.

In game two, Greenberg went 2-for-3 for Yeshiva. Mintz had a single and stole two bases. Fant and senior SJ Tannenbaum each singled. On the mound, Greenberg struck out four batters in relief.

For the Mariners, freshman Michael Monkevich started the game on the mound and earned his second win of the season.

Yeshiva will host College of Mount Saint Vincent, in a Skyline Conference doubleheader, on Friday morning. First pitch at Overpeck Park is scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
