JERSEY CITY – The Yeshiva University men's volleyball team dropped a Skyline Conference match to New Jersey City University, in straight sets, at the John J. Moore Athletics and Fitness Center on Thursday evening. Set scores were 25-15, 25-12, and 25-11.
The defending Skyline Conference Champion Gothic Knights (19-8, 9-3 Skyline) led each of the first two sets from wire-to-wire. Yeshiva (4-11, 3-9 Skyline) had a 5-4 advantage in the third set, but a 10-1 run by New Jersey City University put the home team in the lead for good.
For the Maccabees during the match, senior
Michael Stark led all players with 10 digs. Classmate
Benjamin Goldstein recorded two kills, seven assists, and four digs. Senior
Steven Zelmanovich had four digs and added a block. Third-year player
Alon Jakubowitz slammed home four kills, while junior
Shmuel Aberman chipped in on defense with three digs. Senior
Avi Braun provided a dig. Junior
Eliezer Benjamin generated a kill, a block, and a dig. Classmate
Asher Kirshtein tallied a kill and a dig.
For the Gothic Knights, senior Jonathan Andrews had a match-high 26 kills, while classmate Aaron Mantilla provided 41 assists.
Yeshiva will conclude the 2022 season with a Skyline Tri-Match, at Purchase College, on Sunday. The Maccabees will battle the Roadrunners of Ramapo College at 12:00 p.m. and then the host-Panthers at 2:00 p.m.
