FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University baseball team dropped both ends of its Skyline Conference doubleheader to Farmingdale State College, 10-0 and 14-4, at the Farmingdale State Baseball Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The highlight for the Maccabees (2-21, 0-16 Skyline) was once again senior
Max Leibowitz, who went 3-for-4 during game two, including a two-RBI triple, while scoring two runs and stealing a base. He also singled, walked, and stole two bases during the opening game. Yeshiva and Farmingdale were even in hits during the second contest, 11-11.
The Rams (13-10, 8-4 Skyline) scored three runs in the first inning of game one and never looked back. For YU, senior
Judah Blonder reached base with a single during the opening matchup. Classmate
Jacob Schwartzman drew a walk to reach base for the third straight game.
On the mound, senior
David Kreisberg pitched a scoreless and hitless inning out of the bullpen for YU. Sophomore Jordan Lambert struck out eight batters in five innings pitched to earn the win for Farmingdale.
In game two, the Rams scored five runs over the course of the first two innings to take the lead for good. YU got one run back in the top of the third, thanks to an RBI single by Kreisberg that scored Leibowitz from second. However, Farmingdale scored a run each in the bottom of the third and fourth, and then broke it open with four runs in the bottom of the fifth, to put the game out of reach for Yeshiva.
Down 13-1 in the top of the seventh, Leibowitz drilled a two-run triple to right center to shrink the Rams' lead to 10. He ended up scoring thanks to a sacrifice fly by Kreisberg to narrow Farmingdale's benefit to 13-4. However, the Rams scored the 14
th run in the bottom of the eight to clinch the victory.
During the second game, Kreisberg drove in two runs. Senior
Adam Zahler went 2-for-4 at the plate. Schwartzman singled and walked to extend his on-base streak to four games. Blonder reached base with a double. Sophomore
Joshua Mintz, senior
David Price, and classmate
Justin Hanelin each produced a single.
On the mound, Zahler pitched seven innings for the Maccabees. Freshman Will Stewart pitched a scoreless inning out of the bullpen to get the win for the Rams.
Yeshiva will host St. Joseph's College Brooklyn, in a Skyline Conference doubleheader at Overpeck Park, on Wednesday, April 27. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
