Men's Tennis Earns Key Skyline Road Win Over Merchant Marine

KINGS POINT, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University men's tennis team earned a key Skyline Conference victory on the road over the United States Merchant Marine Academy, 6-3, at the Brooks Tennis Courts on Sunday afternoon. Yeshiva advances to 2-0 in league play (4-2 overall), while Merchant Marine falls to 2-1 in the conference (2-3 overall).

The Maccabees won all three doubles flights and then added three singles victories to secure the conference win.

"Another tough day at the office but the guys really focused on crunch time in doubles, and with the sweep, made it a lot easier for singles," Yeshiva University Head Coach Jon Rubinstein said. "Good team win, and these guys will be a very tough team at full strength in the playoffs."

Graduate student Tomer Mendler and senior Anthony Lallouz teamed up to win at No. 1 doubles, 8-4. Mendler came back win the first singles flight, 6-0, 6-1, while Lallouz earned the singles win at the third position, 6-4, 6-3.

Sophomore Akiva Ackerman's win at No. 5 singles (6-2, 6-0) clinched YU's second conference victory of the season. Earlier in the afternoon, he joined forces with senior Aaron Cohen to win at No. 2 doubles, 8-6.

Seniors Eitan Jeselsohn and Aaron Singer trailed 4-0 at No. 3 doubles but rallied by winning eight of the last nine games to claim the flight, 8-5. "That was crucial in the changing of the momentum," Rubinstein said.

Yeshiva will continue Skyline play, on Monday, with a matchup against St. Joseph's College Long Island. First serve at the SJC Outdoor Field Complex is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
