PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University softball team dropped both games of its Skyline Conference doubleheader to Purchase College, 9-0 and 11-2, at the Purchase College Softball Field on Sunday afternoon.
In game one, the Panthers (8-8, 4-0 Skyline) scored eight runs in the opening frame, but the Maccabees (0-13, 0-6 Skyline) held them to just one run the rest of the way.
For YU, junior
Emily Zrihen and sophomore
Kyra Appel each reached base with a single. In the circle, sophomore
Shai Rahamim struck out two batters in four innings pitched.
For Purchase, senior Kelly Agostini started the game in the circle and picked up her fifth win of the season.
In game two, the Panthers scored five runs each in the first two innings, plus one in the third, and never looked back.
The Maccabees had a productive top half of the fourth inning at the plate. With one out, junior
Esther Miller singled through the right side. Classmate
Elisheva Miller followed with an infield single that advanced her sister to second. During the next at bat, both Millers stole a base to make it second and third. Junior
Saraleah Lakritz continued YU's momentum by slapping an RBI infield single to score
Esther Miller to put the Maccabees on the board.
Elisheva Miller later scored a run to shrink Purchase's lead to 11-2.
However, the Macs' big fourth inning would not be enough as the Panthers ended up earning the sweep.
For the Maccabees,
Esther Miller went 2-for-3. Rahamim once again pitched and struck out five Purchase batters in four innings of work.
For the Panthers, Agostni earned her second victory of the afternoon in the circle and sixth of the season.
Yeshiva will host Farmingdale State College, in a Skyline Conference doubleheader at Overpeck Park, on Tuesday, April 26. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
