RIDGEFIELD, N.J. - The Yeshiva University softball team fell in both Skyline contests against St. Joseph's University Brooklyn, 11-0 and 18-3, at Overpeck Park on Monday evening.
The highlight for the Maccabees (0-15, 0-8 Skyline) came in the opening inning of game two. After giving up nine runs, in the top half of the first, the Maccabees loaded the bases with nobody out in the bottom frame. JuniorÂ
Elisheva Miller scorched a single to right that scored classmateÂ
Yael Dannenbaum to put YU on the board. Second-year player
Esther Miller and junior
Emily Zrihen later scored on wild pitches to pull YU to within six, at 9-3. However, the Maccabees were not able to push across more runs.
Esther Miller and Zrihen each reached base earlier in the inning via a walk. Junior
Saraleah Lakritz also earned a base on balls during the inning.
The Bears (19-9, 7-7 Skyline) would pull away, as sophomores Autumn Poppett and Sophia Logreco combined for back-to-back inside-the-park home runs in the top of the fifth inning, the second of the evening for the latter, on their way to the 18-3 victory in game two. In the circle, sophomore Brianna Kilimet earned her fourth win of the season for St. Joseph's Brooklyn, striking out 11 YU batters in the process..Â
In game one, Zrihen got the solo hit for the Macs. Logreco hit her first inside-the-park round tripper of the evening, while junior Kristen Oddo hit an inside the park home run as well. In the circle, senior Gabriella Salvadore struck out 11 YU batters in five innings pitched to pick up her second victory of the season.Â
Yeshiva will return to Overpeck Park on Tuesday evening for a league doubleheader against Farmingdale State College. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.Â
