PURCHASE, N.Y. - Th Yeshiva University men's tennis team picked up a key Skyline Conference victory over Sarah Lawrence College, 9-0, at the Purchase College Tennis Courts on Wednesday evening. The Maccabees remain undefeated in Skyline play at 4-0 (6-3 overall). The Macs are currently in second place in the league standings behind the Valiants of Manhattanville College who are 6-0 in conference matches this season.
"Good win today in less than ideal weather conditions," Yeshiva University Head Coach
Jon Rubinstein said. "In spite of that, we were focused from the get go."
Graduate student
Tomer Mendler and rookie
Akiva Ackerman teamed up to win at No. 1 doubles, 8-1. Mendler came back to claim the No. 1 singles flight, 6-1, 6-1. Ackerman won every game at No. 4 singles.
Senior
Eitan Jeselsohn and freshman
Sion Jacobo did not lose a single game in their No. 2 doubles matchup. They each won all 12 games over the course of two sets in their respective singles matches, with Jeselsohn earning the win at the No. 2 spot and Jacobo claiming the victory in the fifth position.
Junior
Yoni Mayer and sophomore
Yedidya Schechter earned the win at No. 3 doubles, 8-1. Mayer won at No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-0, while Schechter won every game at No. 6 singles.
Yeshiva will have a chance to clinch a first-round bye in the upcoming Skyline Conference Championships on Thursday afternoon when the Macs take on the Knights of Mount Saint Mary College (N.Y.). First serve at the Mount Saint Mary College Tennis Courts is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. If the Maccabees defeat the Knights, YU is guaranteed a spot in the semifinal round of the league championships.
