NEWBURGH, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University men's tennis team earned a key Skyline road victory over Mount Saint Mary College (N.Y.), 7-2, at the Mount Saint Mary College Tennis Courts on Thursday afternoon. As a result, the Maccabees (7-3, 5-0 Skyline) have clinched a berth in the semifinal round of the Skyline Conference Championships which will take place on Thursday, May 5.
The Maccabees won two doubles matches and five singles flights to clinch the victory.
"Nice win today," Yeshiva University Head Coach
Jon Rubinstein said. "The conditions were very cold and windy, but the guys stayed focused and played through it."
Rookie
Akiva Ackerman and senior
Michael Froehlich teamed up to win the first doubles flight, 8-3. Senior
Eli Hanuka and sophomore
Joshua Deutsch won every game in the second doubles position.
Yeshiva dominated in singles competition, winning every game in each of the first five positions. The Knights (0-9, 0-6 Skyline) won the sixth flight by default. They also earned a default victory at No. 3 doubles.
For the Macs, Ackerman claimed the first singles position, Hanuka won the second, Froehlich was victorious at the third flight, sophomore
Yedidya Schechter earned the win at No. 4 singles, and Deutsch picked up the victory at the fifth position.
The Maccabees will look to remain undefeated in Skyline play on Friday morning, as they take on the Panthers of Purchase College in Purchase, N.Y. First serve is scheduled for 10:00 a.m.
