Softball Team Drops Pair of Skyline Games to Mount Saint Vincent

RIDGEFIELD, N.J. – The Yeshiva University softball team dropped both games of its Skyline Conference doubleheader to College of Mount Saint Vincent, 16-0 and 20-2, at Overpeck Park on Friday morning.

Yeshiva (0-23, 0-16 Skyline) scored both its runs in the bottom of the fourth inning in game two courtesy of a two-RBI single off the bat of junior Emuna Shiller that scored sophomores Kyra Appel and Ashley Botnick. Earlier in the frame, Botnick drew a walk and Appel ripped a double. It would not be enough as the Dolphins (7-19, 4-12 Skyline) earned the sweep.

For the Maccabees in game two, Appel went 2-for-2 and stole a base. Junior Yael Dannenbaum drew a walk and stole a base, while sophomore Elisheva Miller produced a single. Classmate Esther Miller earned a base on balls.

The Dolphins were powered by junior Jocelyn Vega who went 4-for-4, including a grand slam, and hit for the cycle during the second end of the twin bill. She drove in eight runs and scored twice. Senior Abigail Laurendeau pitched a complete game, striking out eight YU batters to earn the win.

During game one, earlier in the day, Esther Miller drilled a triple for the Maccabees, while her teammate Dannenbaum produced a single and stole a base, her first of two stolen bases for the afternoon.

Mount Saint Vincent was led by Vega who went 3-for-3 with a pair of triples, three runs batted in, just as many runs scored, and also drew a walk during the opening contest. In the circle, junior Katie Hutter earned a complete-game victory as she fanned 11 hitters in five shutout innings pitched.

Yeshiva will battle St. Joseph's College Long Island, in a Skyline Conference doubleheader at the St. Joseph's College Softball Stadium, on Sunday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
