Jeselsohn's Victory Breaks 4-4 Tie and Propels Men's Tennis to Skyline Win Over Farmingdale State College

MONTCLAIR, N.J. – The Yeshiva University men's tennis team opened Skyline Conference play by earning a thrilling victory over Farmingdale State College, 5-4, at Brookdale Park Tennis Center on Tuesday evening.

With the match tied at four, senior Eitan Jeselsohn of YU (3-2, 1-0 Skyline) and senior Cooper Everett of Farmingdale (2-3, 1-1 Skyline) battled it out at the No. 5 singles position to determine which team would come out on top. Jeselsohn won the first set, 7-5, but dropped the second one by a score of 6-3. In the rubber set, Jeselsohn came out on top, 6-4, to win the flight and claim the conference win for the Maccabees.

"This was truly a battle to the last point," Yeshiva University Head Coach Jon Rubinstein said. "For our first time outdoors this season, the guys battled the elements and played well under pressure."

In No. 1 doubles, seniors Leon Bassan and Anthony Lallouz trailed 3-0 in the tiebreaker, but rallied to win it 7-3, and claim the first doubles flight by a score of 8-7. Senior Aaron Cohen and sophomore Akiva Ackerman dominated No. 3 doubles, taking eight out of nine games.

In singles play, Lallouz claimed the fourth flight, 6-0, 6-1, to give the Maccabees a 3-2 advantage in the match. After the Rams tied it up, Cohen earned a convincing victory at No. 2 singles, 6-3, 6-1, to put YU up, 4-3. Farmingdale would not go down quietly as a win at No. 1 singles tied it up at four. Then, Jeselsohn won a thrilling three-set battle in the match-deciding fifth flight to clinch the key Skyline victory for the Macs.

It will be a quick turnaround as Yeshiva will take on Skyline rival Purchase College on Wednesday, at the Purchase College Tennis Courts, beginning at 3:00 p.m.
