THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University baseball team dropped both Skyline games to Maritime College, 14-0 and 15-1, at Reinhart Field on Friday afternoon.
The highlight for the Maccabees (2-19, 0-14 Skyline) was senior
Max Leibowitz as he went 4-for-4 with a pair of doubles in game two, while scoring a run and stealing a base. The Valley Village native is now hitting .333 this season.
During the first game, seniors
David Kreisberg and
Judah Blonder each produced a single for YU. However, Maritime (16-6, 8-2 Skyline) scored 11 runs in the top of the first, highlighted by a grand slam from sophomore Freddy Forgione, to put the game out of reach for the Macs.
After having a rough first inning, senior
Rafi Jacobs settled in for the Maccabees by pitching four straight scoreless innings on his way to a complete game. Senior Niko Concha went the distance to advance his undefeated record to 5-0 for Maritime.
In game two, the Privateers scored two runs in the top of the first to grab a 2-0 advantage. Leibowitz led off the bottom frame with a bunt single. After advancing all the way to third, he ended up scoring on an RBI single off the bat of Kreisberg to slice the Macs' deficit in half.
After adding a run in the second, Maritime broke it open with seven runs in the third to take a commanding hold it would not surrender.
For the Maccabees, Kreisberg went 2-for-3, while senior
Jacob Schwartzman singled in his only plate appearance of the afternoon. On the mound, junior
Justin Hanelin pitched 3.2 scoreless innings out of the bullpen.
For the Privateers, freshman Matthew Demme earned his fourth victory on the mound this season.
Yeshiva will travel to Long Island, on Sunday, to take on Farmingdale State College in a pair of Skyline games. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
