Nitzan Tallies First Career Goal During Women's Soccer Team's Skyline Loss to Maritime College

PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University women's soccer team had a strong effort against Maritime College, on Tuesday evening, but it was not enough as the Privateers came away with the 6-1 victory at the Purchase College Soccer Field.

After Maritime (2-2, 1-0 Skyline) grabbed a 1-0 lead early in the first half, Yeshiva (0-6, 0-5 Skyline) answered in the 34th minute. Senior forward Yuval Nitzan received a through pass from classmate Anjelica Feig, pushed the ball down the field, and beat the goalkeeper one on one by propelling the ball through the back of the cage to even the match at one goal apiece. It was the first goal of Nitzan's collegiate career.

The Maccabees' defense also rose to the occasion as they held the Privateers scoreless for the remainder of the half as both teams went into the intermission tied at a goal apiece.

Maritime's attack took off in the second half, scoring five goals in the final 45 minutes of play on its way to the Skyline victory.

For the Maccabees, Nitzan had eight shots with five of them on goal. Rookie Bijou Feig also tallied a shot. Second-year goalkeeper Sophie Dubin made 11 saves for the Macs.

The Privateers were led by sophomore midfielder Kiera Ford who had two goals and just as many assists. Junior defender Kathryn Sandford added two goals of her own. Senior goalkeeper Liz Pomaro made four saves in net to earn the victory for Maritime.

Yeshiva will return to the Purchase College Soccer Field on Thursday, for a Skyline Conference matchup against Mount Saint Mary College. The action begins at 6:00 p.m.
