BRONX – It was a tale of two results for the Yeshiva University women's tennis team on Sunday afternoon. Yeshiva (2-3, 1-3 Skyline) dropped its Skyline match (that began on September 11 but was suspended due to weather) to Purchase College, 7-2, but struck back to earn a non-conference win over host-Lehman College, 7-2. The completion of the match against Purchase and then the full match against Lehman both took place at the APEX Tennis Courts.
In the match against Purchase (3-1, 1-0 Skyline) rookies
Sarah Leiderman and
Sarah Grunseid earned a dominating win at No. 3 doubles for the Maccabees, 8-0. Newcomer
Shira Adler won her No. 2 singles flight by retirement.
In YU's convincing victory over Lehman College (0-2), the Maccabees won two out of three doubles flights and went 5-2 in singles play to clinch the win. Adler and junior
Liana Friedman dominated at No. 2 doubles, 8-1. Leiderman and fellow newcomer
Danya Parker won every game at No. 3 doubles.
In singles play, Friedman cruised to a win at the second position, 6-1, 6-2. Adler claimed No. 3 singles, 6-2, 6-1. Leiderman won every game in both sets at No. 4 singles, as did rookie
Prisylla Mutchnik at the sixth position. Senior
Nicole Abittan picked up the victory at No. 5 singles, 6-2, 6-3.
Yeshiva will take on another CUNYAC opponent, John Jay College, on Tuesday afternoon. First serve at the USTA National Tennis Center is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
