NEW YORK – The Yeshiva University women's volleyball team suffered a Skyline Conference loss to the United States Merchant Marine Academy, 3-0, at ARC Arena on Monday evening. Set scores were 25-9, 25-8, and 25-12.
Leading the way for Yeshiva (0-9, 0-7 Skyline) defensively was junior
Ashley Botnick who had a team-high 13 digs. Rookie
Shany Elmaleh had another productive match with nine digs, a pair of kills, and just as many assists. Senior
Gabrielle Kupferman produced three kills and two digs. Classmate
Devorah Batt notched two kills, a solo block, and a dig.
Merchant Marine (4-3, 1-0 Skyline) did not trail at any point in the match. Yeshiva kept it close early in the opening set, as Kupferman's kill highlighted a 5-1 run for the Maccabees to narrow their deficit to 6-5. However, the Mariners dominated the remainder of the set, outscoring Yeshiva 19-3 to take the 1-0 lead in the match on their way to the sweep.
For YU, senior
Emily Zrihen had a kill, three digs, and two assists. Classmate
Daniella Rothman generated a kill and a dig. Junior
Zoey Botnick produced three assists, a kill, and a dig.
For Merchant Marine, junior Brittany Breland led the way with 11 kills, 13 digs, and a pair of service aces.
Yeshiva will return to ARC Arena on Wednesday evening for a Skyline match against Manhattanville College. First serve is scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
