BROOKLYN – The Yeshiva University men's soccer team battled to a 1-1 draw with St. Joseph's University Brooklyn, at Aviator Field, on Tuesday afternoon.
Both goals were scored during the opening half.
The Bears (2-1-2, 0-0-1 Skyline) struck first during the 14
th minute as sophomore Victor Naci tipped the ball into the net off a 15-yard pass from classmate Diego Volpe to put St. Joseph's up, 1-0.
Yeshiva (4-1-2, 3-1-2 Skyline) answered late in the opening period as the Bears committed a foul inside the box. The Macs were awarded a penalty kick as a result and with less than two minutes left, junior
Lucas Baredes successfully converted on the opportunity which tied the match at a goal apiece. It marks Baredes' second penalty kick tally of the season and sixth goal overall.
During the 38
th minute, Yeshiva had an opportunity to jump out in front as junior
Josh Ziarno tried to sneak a shot off a sharp pass but the ball sailed just a bit left of the goal post.
Both teams went into the intermission tied at one.
The Maccabees had a golden opportunity to take the lead during the 61
st minute as
Josh Ziarno shot the ball past the goalkeeper, but a St. Joseph's defender blocked the ball from going into the net.
The match ended up in a 1-1 tie and each team earned a point in the Skyline standings.
Yeshiva outshot St. Joseph's Brooklyn, 22-16, and had the advantage in shots on goal (8-5). The Maccabees also led in corner kick opportunities, 5-2.
In net, senior
Benjamin Brener made four saves for the Blue and White. Junior Leonel Bravo stopped seven shots for St. Joseph's Brooklyn.
Yeshiva has another Skyline road matchup on Thursday evening, at Purchase College, beginning at 7:30 p.m.
