Men's Soccer Cruises Past Purchase College to Extend Unbeaten Streak to Five Matches

PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University men's soccer team earned another important Skyline Conference victory, on Thursday evening, defeating Purchase College by a score of 5-0 at the Purchase College Soccer Field. The Maccabees are now 4-1-2 in conference play and 5-2-1 overall.

Leading the way for Yeshiva was senior Ethan Fettaya who had a goal and a pair of assists.

In net, senior Benjamin Brener stopped four shots to earn his third shutout victory of the season and fourth win overall.

Yeshiva outshot Purchase, 19-4, and led in shots on goal, 10-4. The Panthers (3-2-0, 0-1-0 Skyline) had the advantage in corner kicks, 7-4.

The Maccabees first tally occurred in the 18th minute as Fettaya found junior Josh Ziarno who buried his sixth goal of the year to give the Blue and White a 1-0 advantage. During the 40th minute, Fettaya once again played the role of the distributer as he connected with senior Alexandre Assouline who snuck the ball into the left corner of the net to inflate YU's advantage to 2-0. That would be the score after 45 minutes of play.

Just over four minutes into the second half, sophomore David Abittan received a pass from Josh Ziarno and found the back of the cage to extend the Macs' lead to 3-0. Just over seven minutes later, Fettaya broke free and sprinted with the ball down the field. He rifled the ball into the net from 18 yards out to give the Maccabees a commanding 4-0 hold. With less than 12 minutes to go, sophomore Asher Martin registered his first goal of the season and rounded out the scoring for YU. The Maccabees went on to win the conference contest, 5-0, to extend their unbeaten streak to five matches.

Yeshiva will battle SUNY Old Westbury, at Votee Park, next Thursday. The action begins at 7:00 p.m.
