Men’s Soccer Tripped Up By Farmingdale, Loses Top Spot In Skyline

LEONIA, NJ - Suffering their first conference loss of the 2023 season, the Yeshiva men's soccer team fell to Farmingdale State College on Sunday, Oct. 15, losing to the Rams by a score of 1-0.

Asher Martin led the way for the Maccabees on offense, posting a team leading mark of three shots on goal, including a second half penalty kick that the senior was chosen to take.

On the other end of the ball, despite surrendering their first conference goal since the middle of September, the Mac defensive unit rallied for a stellar outing, with keeper Kellian Marty helming the effort with four saves on the night.

With the loss, the Macs are now 5-3-2, 5-1-2 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • A defensive struggle through and through, the match's only goal came early on, when, in the 20th minute, a Farmingdale striker was able to slip the ball past the outstretched leg of Marty.

  • That is not to say that the Macs were without their chances, far from it. The Yeshiva attack tallied 10 shots on the night with five being on goal. It was only through balls bouncing off of crossbars and a couple of incredible saves from the Farmingdale goalie that the Maccabee attackers were denied the back of the net.

  • Yeshiva's best opportunity came in the 60th minute when, thanks to a foul drawn in the box, the Macs were awarded a penalty. Martin chose the bottom right hand corner to place his shot, but unfortunately so did the keeper, as the FDU goalie wrapped up the ball and nullified what would turn out to be the Maccabees' best chance at finding paydirt.
