YONKERS, NY - Staging yet another exciting come-from-behind win, the Yeshiva men's soccer team felled Sarah Larence College, defeating the Gryphons by a score of 3-2 on Tuesday, Oct. 17.
Offensively, the Maccabee attack was led by
Josh Ziarno, who's two crunch time goals lifted Yeshiva over the edge and to victory.
On the defensive end, despite allowing two early scores, keeper
Kellian Marty came up big for the Macs in the second half, notching two crucial saves to help secure the YU win.
With the result, the Macs are now 6-3-2, 6-1-2 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Macs got off to a slow start in the first half, allowing two goals by the time the halftime horn sounded. Yeshiva were not without their chances to score themselves, managing six shots over the first 45 minutes, but were unable to find the back of the net.
- The first hints of a comeback came 20 minutes into the second period, when, assisted by an excellent pass from Rafael Cohen, midfielder Alejandro Saul slammed the ball into the back of the net, putting the Macs on the board and cutting the squad's deficit to one.
- Just four minutes later, Ziarno officially took over the match. Within the span of eight minutes, the forward not only leveled the game at two-all thanks to another great assist from Cohen, but gave the Macs their first lead of the night in the 79th minute after neatly guiding the ball past the outstretched hand of the keeper.
- Yeshiva's 3-2 advantage would hold for the final eleven minutes of play, as the Macs escaped Yonkers with an incredible comeback win.
