FLUSHING, NY - Playing in the second-to-last match of their fall slate, the Yeshiva women's tennis team fell to Sarah Lawrence College by a score of 5-4 on Sunday, Oct. 15.
Facing hardships early on, the Maccabees dropped two of three doubles matches, going into singles trailing 2-1. Despite capturing three straight wins in singles play, Yeshiva could not complete the comeback, ultimately falling, 5-4.
About the match, Head Coach Miller had to say, "Another tough loss that went down to the third set of the last match. The ladies fought hard until the end."
With the result, the Macs are now 2-4, 2-3 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Doubles:
- Struggling right off the bat, the Macs dropped both their No. 1 and No. 2 seeded matches, seeing the duos of Shira Adler/Micka Mamoun and Anna Laufer/Liana Friedman fall by scores of 8-2 and 8-4 respectively.
- Yeshiva's only win came in the No. 3 seeded match, when the ever-reliable pair of Sarah Leiderman/Sarah Grunseid downed their opponents, 8-1.
- With the late surge, the Macs went into singles play only trailing 2-1.
Singles:
- The Macs came out of the gate on fire in their singles matchups, seeing dominant wins from Leiderman (6-1, 6-2), Laufer (6-1, 6-2) and Grunseid (6-3, 6-3) in the No. 4, 5 and 6 slots respectively.
- However, Sarah Lawrence battled back, taking down Adler in straight sets in the No. 1 match, and Friedman in the No. 2 match following a grueling three-set slog.
- With the score tied at 4-4, all eyes turned to the No. 3 slot, where Mamoun took on her Gryphon adversary. Despite starting off strong and taking the first set, 6-4, the sophomore ran out of gas, dropping the final two by scores of 6-4 and 6-3, surrendering in the process not only her match, but the dual match as a whole.
