Women’s Tennis Downed In Final Regular Season Match

FLUSHING, NY - Competing in the final match of their final match of the 2023 regular season, the Yeshiva women's tennis team fell to St. Joseph's University Long Island, losing to the Golden Eagles by a score of 7-2 on Monday, Oct. 17.

Struggling early, the Maccabees fell in two of three doubles matches, headed into singles play down 2-1. Despite putting up a good fight in multiple matches, the Macs saw only one singles win on the night, ultimately dropping the contest.

About the match, Coach Miller had to say, "we came out strong in doubles. Won at #3 but couldn't close out one and two. The singles were close, but SJULI was steadier. Credit to Sarah Liederman, who won doubles and singles"

With the loss, the Macs are now 2-5, 2-4 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Doubles:
  • Despite seeing strong efforts from its squads, Yeshiva dropped both the No. 1 and No. 2 seeded matches, as the pairs of Shira Adler/Micka Mamoun and Liana Friedman/Anna Laufer both fell, 5-4.

  • The Macs' only win came in the No. 3 seeded match, as the ever-reliable duo of Sarah Liederman/Sarah Grunseid triumphed, 8-1.

  • With the late surge, the Macs wrapped up doubles play down only 2-1.

Singles:
  • Despite sniffing a comeback, Yeshiva's engine ran out of juice in singles play, as the team fell in the No. 1, 2, 3, 5 and 6 seeded matches.

  • The Macs' only win came in the No. 4 match, when Leiderman pulled out an impressive victory following a back-and-forth three-set battle, coming out with the win by a score of 6-1, 4-6, 10-7.

UP NEXT
Doing enough in this match to secure a spot in the Skyline Conference Playoffs as the No. 4 seed, the Macs will rematch with No. 1 seeded St. Joseph's University Long Island on Wednesday, Oct. 18.
